Charan Singh makes his first major speech against the Tripathi government, speaking furiously on the new CM’s effrontery of undoing policies passed in Singh’s tenure, all of which had the due assent of both the BKD and the Congress (R). He levelled accusations on Tripathi’s free consortium with “criminals” and the favour he lavished on men of his own caste. Tripathi had also allowed the old custom of touching the CM’s feet to continue despite its casteist and feudal roots, which Singh also duly attacked. Tripathi was also favouring heavy industries over agriculture, and policies that were widening the now gaping chasm between rural and urban incomes. He remained true to his long time cherished goals.
