Charan Singh pushed into a corner by Left Parties on the matter of land revenue abolition and offers his first resignation as CM

Dec 1967

Intrigues and demarchés abided in the SVD coalition. A united left front of the SSP, PSP and CPI had formed against Charan Singh who were pushing him to resign in favour of Ugra Sen, a minister of the SSP, if he was unwilling to abolish land revenue on smallholdings, releasing the government employees in detention and redistributing fallow lands to the landless. On December 16, Singh tendered his resignation to the SVD once again, but the general body refused to accept it and beseeched him to continue.
