These books study the period of the dominance of the Indian National Congress in Uttar Pradesh, the state of Land Reforms, the birth of ‘non-Congressism’ and the first non-Congress Samyukta Vidhayak Dal (SVD) government in 1967, the rise of the BKD and the BLD till 1977, the coming to dominance of the land-owning peasants,  the rise and fall of the Janata Party from 1977-79 -  all of these placed Charan Singh at the centre of North Indian and national politics.
