SSP withdraws from the SVD reducing it to a five member coalition, Singh issues 10-point memorandum defending his position

05 Jan 1968

These tensions that were long abrew in the SVD slowly approached denouement: the parties clashed ceaselessly leading to the SSP deciding to withdraw from the Dal over various disagreements on January 5, 1968. The SVD was reduced from a ten party to a five party coalition. This torrent of withdrawals led to an urgent reshuffling of portfolios which left the remaining parties (Jan Sangh, PSP, Republican and Independents apart from Singh’s own newly formed BKD) unsatisfied as well. With the coalition rapidly falling apart, Charan Singh issued his own 10-point program assessing the demands from allied parties and his immediate concerns. Despite pressure from all sides, he remained firm on what he considered essential matters of principle; hence there would not be a compromise. This minor manifesto is reproduced here.
