Having now abandoned a three-way merger with the Jan Sangh, and propelled by Rajgopalachari’s continuing enthusiasm for one, BKD and the Swatantra Party resumed talks. Through its National Executive, Swatantra Party reaffirmed its hope for a merger in June. PSP and BKD leaders also reconvened and in a joint statement issued on July 15, 1969 agreed that a mere united front of heterogeneous elements would not work in today’s scenario and only a strong singular political party could lead us out of this political morass. They strongly urged other parties with similar views to combine with them and engage in political dialogue.
