He was elected for the first time from Chhaprauli for the UP Assembly in 1931 to 1937 and for the first time in 1946, he got a place in the UP Council of Ministers. After India's independence, as a parliamentary secretary, he served in many councils of ministers and was also the Chief Minister twice. In 1977, Chaudhary sahab came to Delhi as the Home Minister of Uttar Pradesh. After that he became the Finance Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and finally the Prime Minister.
