Pointing towards the layout of Charan Singh’s room, Khushwant Singh says that apart from a calendar on one wall and a large picture of Swami Dayanand Saraswati on the other, there was nothing else. He had never met another leader of such stature who lived as simply as Chaudhary Charan Singh. Whenever the subject of the Indian peasantry will be dsicussed, his ideas will be remembered with respect.
