An interesting incident is narrated here by the son of a former resident magistrate of Haridwar. He recounts the time when Charan Singh visited Haridwar, he was the chief minister of UP then. Since he reached late at night, the magistrate sent food and other refreshments for him from his home. Interestingly, Singh handed him a cheque of 625 paise for the amount he had spent from his pocket. This was one of the many instances that showed the strength of his character and honesty.
