Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that former Prime Minister of India Chaudhary Charan Singh will be awarded the Bharat Ratna. Along with him, eminent personalities such as Kapoori Thakur, former Chief Minister of Bihar, BJP's veteran leader Lal Krishna Advani, former Prime Minister Narasimha Rao and agricultural scientist and father of the Green Revolution MS Swaminathan are the other recipients of this year’s award.
