This note from April 4, 1978 shines light on Charan Singh’s attitude towards Harijans. Singh took measures to address the disabilities experienced by Harijans in the social, economic as well as political realms. He unquestioningly supported inter-caste marriages and also wrote to the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru multiple times elucidating the need to bring a legislation to this effect. He also believed that no educational institution named after a caste should be given financial aid by the government.
